Ayurvedic remedies for common fever

 The term fever may be defined as a condition of the body characterised by increase in temperature, but this term has a very wide application as fever is one of the most common accompaniments of diseases in general. 

According to modern classification the fevers are of the following 25 types

1. Influenza 

2. Pneumonia 

3. Typhoid 

3. Cerebrospinal fever

4. Plague

5. Diphtheria 

6. Dengue 

7. Sandfly fever 

8. Yellow fever

9. Mumps 

10. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke

11. Measles 

12. Chicken pox 

13. Erysipelas 

14. Malaria 

15. Kala azar 

16. Black water fever 

17. Rate bite fever 

18. Relapsing fever

19. Malta fever

20. Filaria 

21. Hectic fever 


The following Ayurvedic measures are very helpful to discard these disease stages. 


The tulsi or basil plant and it’s tender leaves are a specific for many types of fevers. During rainy season when malaria and dengue are common some tender leaves of the plant boiled with one’s daily tea would act as a preventive against fever. 

In the case of acute fever or unspecified origin, a decoction of 12 grams tulsi leaves boiled in half litre water should be administered with milk, sugar and powdered cardamom to bring down the temperature. 


Powder of root of horse radish tree is another remedy for common fever in its preliminary stages. 

Following medicines with doctors consent and consultation with appropriate dosage  are beneficial, 


Mrityunjaya rasa

Godanthi rasa

Pippali choorna 

Tribhuvana keerthi rasa 

Abhraka bhasma 

Amritha satwa 

Hinguleshwara rasa 

Godanthi bhasma 

Black cumin seed powder 


When fever strikes the Patinet should not be permitted to sleep during the day, bathe, eat, sex, talking, exercise, open wind, sour substances are not permitted.
